Two people were seriously injured near Fort Detrick, an Army base in Frederick County, Md., on Tuesday morning and the person who shot them is dead, the police said.
“We are on scene responding to an active shooter in the 8400 block of Progress Drive,” the Frederick, Md., police said on Twitter. “Currently there are two victims and one suspect is down.”
The police responded to reports of gunfire on Progress Drive near the military base at about 8:30 a.m., said Allen Etzler, spokesman for the Police Department. Fort Detrick is about 52 miles northwest of Washington, D.C.
The two people who were shot had “life-threatening” injuries, he said.
Mr. Etzler said the names and ages of the victims and the suspect were not immediately available. He said it was not clear yet who killed the suspect.
