One person was killed and four were critically injured in a shooting at a production plant for a cabinet company in Bryan, Texas, on Thursday, the police said.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said a trooper had also been shot while pursuing a person believed to be the gunman. The trooper was in serious but stable condition, the agency said.

The police said they had responded at about 2:30 p.m. local time to a report of a shooting at 350 Stone City Drive in Bryan, where Kent Moore cabinets are manufactured, and found at least seven victims.

One person had minor injuries and another had a medical-related emergency, according to Lt. Jason James, a spokesman for the Bryan Police Department. All the victims were taken to local hospitals, he said.

The police said that the gunman was at large and that they were asking people to stay away from the area. Lieutenant James said it was not immediately clear if the gunman had been a Kent Moore employee.

When the police arrived, he said, “it was already over with.”

Lieutenant James said investigators were interviewing employees at the Kent Moore plant.

Kent Moore Cabinets, founded in 1971, has nearly 600 employees across Texas and as well as showrooms and sales offices in Austin, Houston, Waco, Fort Worth and other locations, according to its website. An official at the cabinet company declined to comment.

The company was started by Kent Moore when he was a student at Texas A&M University in College Station, which borders Bryan.

Bryan, about 100 miles northwest of Houston, is home to about 86,000 residents.

This is a developing story.
